IES 2019-20 Officer Salary + Facility After 7th Pay Commission – Engineering Services Exam

All Engineering Services Exam aspirants always ask us what is the current salary and facility are given to the IES officers. As we know that IES officers are the ‘Scale/Grade A’ officers. So after 7th pay commission how much IES engineers will get is mentioned in this article with reference with serving IES officers salary and government policies.

Job Profile of an IES Officer

IES or Indian engineering services are the civil services that are appointed so as to accomplish technical and managerial functions for the Indian government.

IES Officers Salary –

6th Pay Commission – IES Officers

During 6th pay commission IES officers were placed in PayBand III which has a scale of 15600-39100 and a grade pay of 5400.

1. Pay Band Rs. 15,600/- – 39,100/-
2. Grade Pay Rs. 5400/-
3. Basic Pay Rs. 21000/-
4. DA 125%
5. Gross Pay Rs. 47500/-
6. Deduction Under Government Rules
7. In Hand Salary Rs 42000/- (Approx.)

So, the basic pay comes out to be 21000 (=15600+5400). At present DA is at 125%. So the Gross Pay comes out to be 47500/- (=21000+21000*1.25). After that there will be deduction like Income tax, contribution to NPS etc. So net pay will be approx 42000/-.

7th Pay Commission – IES Officers Salary

  • Before you actually start thinking about applying for this reputed position, it is important to know about the salary structure depending on different posts and promotions.
  • There is a difference between salaries before and after the 7th Pay Commission. Earlier, the net in-hand salary was INR 42,000 but now the approximate in-hand salary has become INR 55, 135.

Entry Level Salary – IES Officers (7th Pay Commission)

Like all other government and private jobs, entry-level salary of an IES officer is different from those who are highly experienced and working on this post for a longer tenure.

  1. Basic Salary: INR 15600 – INR 39100
  2. Grade Pay: INR 5400
  3. Net Salary: INR 21000
  4. DA (Dearness Allowances): 113% of net salary i.e. 113% of INR 21000 equals to INR 23730
  5. HRA: 30% of Net Salary + DA i.e. 30% of INR (21000 + 23730) equals to INR 13419
  6. Transport Allowance: INR 6600 (for type 1 cities)
  7. Gross Salary: INR 64,749 (Addition of the above)

Now all IES officers will come under PayBand 10 which has a scale salary of 56,100/-

1. Pay Band Rs. 56,100/-
2. Grade Pay Rs. 0/-
3. TA Rs. 3,200/-
4. DA 2% (Rs 1122/-)
5. DA on TA 125% Rs. 4000/-
6. Gross Pay 64,200/-
7. In Hand Salary Rs 55,135/- (Approx.)

After all deductions In hand Salary with a 2 BHK non-furnished accommodation will be about Rs. 55,135/- for an IES officer after income tax deduction of ~ Rs. 3000/-


1. 10 % of gross for pension fund
2. Central govt. Employees Group insurance scheme – 325
3. NPS contribution – 10% of Basic + DA
4. Income Tax – function of savings and investment in different schemes

  • Yearly package considering CTC : should be around 8 lac.

Career Growth of an IES Officer

  • The candidate will be selected as an Assistant Executive Engineer or Assistant Director.
  • After an experience of 3 to 4 years, the candidate will be promoted to Executive Engineer or Director.
  • After 13 years of experience, the candidate will be appointed as a Joint General Manager or Chief Engineer of level 2.
  • After 20 years of experience, the candidate will be promoted to the post of Additional General Manager or Chief Engineer.
  • After 30 years of experience, the candidate will become a Senior General Manager.
  • The final promotion will come after gaining experience of 34 years when the candidate will become a Managing Director or Chairperson of the governmental organization.
